When you say it was a new A/C, I assume you mean it is a new compressor? If that is the case, then we need to start with checking the pressures because this system has pressure sensors that will cut the compressor off, or we could have a pressure issue due to a leak.

I would not recommend just putting Freon in it but that may be what we need to do.
Let's start with the pressures and go from there. Below is a chart that will help with determining correct pressures.
