A/C turning off and on when stopped in traffic?

Hi,

My car's A/C will start well while turning on the car and driving but while stuck in traffic it will shut off and I will not hear the fan turning and will only blow air. While driving again it will kick back on.
What could be the cause?

It could have a leak.

Can I ask if the sound you heard was the relay? These cars do not have a compressor clutch, so they don't make noise when the compressor turns on and off, nevertheless I think MECHTRIX is correct. I would check the A/C charge, here is a video to help you:
