How do I determine what to replace besides the compressor? The A/C was blowing cold prior to pulley freezing up. Examples: Should I replace the condenser, do an A/C flush, replace all the seals? I have access to a vacuum system.

If the compressor came apart internally it will spread metal and seal material throughout the system so it will need to be flushed and the expansion valve replaced. Can you tell if there is debris inside the refrigerant tubes?

Here is a video to help with the job and how to change out the compressor and expansion valve:

Thank you for the prompt response. I'll break it apart, and report back. Does my AC system have a high side port? I could only find the low side. The low-pressure port is centered no obvious high side. Thanks

The high side pressure port will be on the smaller tube (liquid line) which is at the condenser in the front of the car. Check out the images (below). Let us know how it goes.

Found it, thanks to you! Here's where I'm at now. I will remove the old locked up ac compressor. Then inspect for metal particles in the line.

I'll report back to you then. I'll hit this job Monday next week. Does this sound like a plan?
Thx

Hi Ken,

Removed old A/C compressor. I purchased OEM Denso.
1) New A/C compressor appears to be an exact match. The new comp does not have any instructions. Did you know if the new ac compressor arrived with the correct PAG oil, and with the correct amount of it?
2) The high and low coolant lines, do not appear to have any metal particles in it.

If you inform me the DENSO AC comp is able to be installed without worrying about the type of oil in it, and quantity is good to go.
Do you think I need to purchase an A/C condenser, and drier?
Thank you!

Wow, that compressor came update all right lol. I would do the dryer which is a normal service item when doing AC work. DENSO is pretty good about adding the correct amount of oil that is high quality as well, (they don't want the compressor to come back) you can add 2 ounces extra to be safe. Let me know how it goes.

Hi Ken,

1) Can you send the procedures to replace my 08 MB GL450's ac drier?
2) You recommended that I add 2 ounces of PAG oil to the new DENSO ac comp. A. What type PAG oil? Which whole should I add it to?
3) Are new O rings necessary?
Thank you

Hi Joe,

You want to use PAG oil from the auto parts store should be fine, I would use new O rings for sure. Here is how to replace the receiver dryer. Check out the images (below). Let us know how it goes.

Hi Ken, I've had to put the project on hold. The drier hasn't arrived. I think the Hurricane might have hurt the shipping. Should I flush the lines since I'm replacing the compressor and drier? I would prefer not to, but if it makes sense I'll do it. Thank you!

If the inside of the system looks clean, I would not flush the lines. Yep, that Hurricane was rough, disrupting to say the least.

The oil is black, no obvious debris from the destroyed compressor. Am I making a mistake by not flushing the system while I'm waiting on parts? Thank you!

Car's back in operation. AC's blowing cold again! Thank you! I decided not to flush the ac system. Wish me luck!
I would like to PayPal you a tip (money) is that possible?

Before I sign off with you, I have a 92 Ford 460 dually with an ac unit converted from R12 to R134. I plan on recharging it, should I evacuate it and put in new 134? How would I convert R12 instructions to 134?

Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you!
