ABS system fail, warning lights on dash... red brake and yellow abs

we bought this car 2 days ago privately and noticed the yellow abs and the red brake light appear on the dash board, a local garage says the abs system need to be replace, how much should we expect to pay?

No, it doesn't necessarily mean anything has to be replaced. It means the ABS computer has recognized a malfunction and stored a trouble code to identify the issue. Before you do anything, check the brake fluid level as that will put both lights on. If the fluid level is OK, then someone with an ABS compatible scan tool has to retrieve the codes and go from there.
