I bought this vehicle with an ABS issue. Traction control light, slip light and ABS light would all come on. I replace the (2) rear wheel sensors, (2) rear hub and bearing assemblies, and ABS pump/actuator assembly (used) and now the car only drives if you turn traction control off. If traction control button is not engaged (meaning it is on), the car will go into slip, slip light will start flashing and the car will not travel more than 2-5 mph.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

Have you checked the front wheel speed sensors? Are there any trouble codes related to the issue?

Here is a technical service bulletin which describes a similar issue on these vehicles. The attached pictures are the diagnostic flow charts. Follow them and let me know if it helps.

ABS / VDC CAN DIAGNOSIS INFORMATION

APPLIED VEHICLES: All 2005-2011 Nissan vehicles with ABS and/or VDC

SERVICE INFORMATION

When diagnosing a vehicle with an ABS or VDC / SLIP warning light on with DTCs stored in the ABS / VDC actuator control unit, perform DTC diagnosis first.

Do not replace the ABS / VDC actuator control unit without being supported by the DTC diagnosis.

Do not erase DTCs before performing DTC diagnosis.

Always fully diagnose before performing any repairs.

When DTC U1000 (CAN COMM CIRCUIT) is the only DTC stored in the ABS / VDC actuator control unit, use the REPAIR FLOW CHART below. This will assist in proper diagnosis results and repairs in addition to using diagnostic information in the Electronic Service Manual (ESM).

If DTC U1000 is found stored in other systems, refer to NIB10-066 and the applicable ESM.

If other DTCs are found stored in ABS / VDC along with U1000, follow the diagnosis steps for those DTCs in the applicable ESM.

CLAIMS INFORMATION

Refer to the current Nissan Warranty Flat Rate Manual and use the appropriate claims coding for repairs performed.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions. Also, let me know if there are any specific trouble codes stored.

Only the (2) rear ABS wheel speed sensors were replaced. The front was not replaced as much of the forums online pointed and hinted in changing the rear abs sensor(s) only. No trouble codes for the ABS at all. The only trouble code is P1564 2007 Nissan Maxima ASCD Steering Switch.

Hi:
If one of the front sensors is sending an incorrect signal, the traction control thinks one wheel is spinning. The frustrating part is the computer is still receiving a signal. It does not know if it is right or wrong.

What I would suggest, and it will require an upper level scanner, is to check the speed which each sensor is sending to the traction control system. That way we can eliminate a sensor issue. When driving, lets say 25 mph, all sensors should be showing that speed.

Other than that, it becomes a guessing game. Think about it. This is a front wheel drive vehicle, so a traction issue will be related to the front wheels, not the rear. Yes, the ABS will actuate if one of the rear wheels locks up, but traction control is related to the front sensors.

Let me know your thoughts and if you have anyone with a scanner which can read live data from the wheel speed sensors.
