Buying a OEM ABS modulator valve for my 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sports ES will be my last option. Cost of a brand new is $1,484.00.

I am considering buying a used OEM version ($140.00). However, a Mitsubishi dealer warned me that they can install the used part, but they cannot reprogram a used ABS module to my car because according to them, an ABS module can only be program once. Hence, it will not work and they will not refund me the $300.00 labor cost.

My question is, are they telling the truth about not being able to reprogram a used ABS module? Of course, they want me to buy the brand new one.

Any input?

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

To the best of my knowledge, they are being honest. The system is designed to be programmed to your vehicle specifically including VIN number. Once that is done, it cannot be changed.

I would shop prices. Some of these can be rebuilt. You may want to check online to see if you can find a rebuilder to do it. Be specific, however. Make sure they are aware of all the vehicle information.

Take care,
Joe
