Yesterday I had a front wheel bearing replaced on my 2008 Nissan Sentra and now the ABS light is on. The mechanic wants me to pay to have a new sensor installed, saying something like the problem is that the gap sizes are different on the new bearing so the sensor is reading that there is a problem. Is this reasonable? Or did they do something wrong - damage the sensor during installation, wrong type of bearing installed, or something like that?

I would be sure they actually installed a new hub bearing that was for ABS. They make two different hubs. One is with ABS and the other is without ABS. If it wasn't causing an issue before then either they damaged the wheel speed sensor, installed the incorrect hub bearing, or they need to go with a dealer OEM hub bearing. If the bearing was made for that car then the there should not be a "clearance" issue with the sensor. Sounds as if they are just trying to about fixing it for free.
