ABS light and hand brake light

why is my ABS warning light is always on, and my hand brake light doesn't appear on when i pull it over on my BMW 316?

The Anti-Lock Brake Computer detected a problem, set a diagnostic fault code, turned the system off, and turned the yellow warning light on to tell you. Your mechanic will connect a scanner to read the code(s). They will indicate the circuit or system that needs further diagnosis.

If the red "Brake" light doesn't turn on, either the bulb is burned out or the switch is broken.
