Anti-lock ABS light comes on. The car makes a clunking sound when it comes on.

Hello, I'm Danny.
That means you have an ABS trouble code stored in your vehicles computer. First thing I suggest is to have the code(s) checked. If you don't have access to a code reader/scanner your local auto parts stores have a tool loaner program and can rent you one. You will need an OBD1 reader. Here is a tutorial showing what is involved:
