I had a bad ABS module so I replaced it and had a dealer program the new one. Now I don't get any ABS or general error codes but the ABS blinks on and beeps every ten seconds.

Hi Jack,

Normally a flashing ABS light on these vehicles means the ABS is not initialized. They may have programmed it but this is not the same as initializing it. This normally requires a road test and they perform what is called the ABS verification test. They go in with the scan tool and start the procedure and then drive the vehicle through the progression that it asks them to do. It sounds like you may have a wheel speed sensor that is out. These videos will help us find the problem.

Please run down these guides and report back.

I would simply call the dealer back and find out what exactly they did. Then you will need to take it back and have them look at it again. I am sure there will be a couple codes in the ABS saying that it is not initialized

Let me know if I am missing something or there is other info that could change this situation. Thanks .

The dealer was very unhelpful answering my questions he definitely didn't drive it. The car didn't leave the shop while they were working on it
I have a code reader that reads abs codes but it says there are no codes to read
Is there a way I can initialize it myself is there a scanner that I can buy to do it?

I am sure there are tools that can do it but I am not familiar with any outside of the dealers tool call WiTECH. You have to have a tool that goes into the abs and starts the procedure and it is driven about 15 MPH then take a turn of about 90degrees, then make a u turn. Jump on one foot while juggling 3 eggs. The last part might not be part of it but basically you are teaching the abs all different angles and braking inputs.

The fact that there are no codes but the light comes on and off pretty much confirms this. If they go in with their tool they will most likely have a pending code telling them they need to initialize it.

Sorry the dealer didn’t help you but I would call them back and speak with the service manager. Especially if you paid them to do this. The advisors won’t k is what you are talking about with an initialization vs flashing so they may fight you.

Let me know if there is more I can help with. If you want me to research any tools that can do it because you want to purchase one, I am happy to do that. However they will be full blown scan tools not just code reader so they are not cheap.

Thank you for your help
I would be willing to spend up to about 500 on a tool that can do this do you think a tool in that price range would cut it or would I need something more expensive?

So the ones that I KNOW will perform this function are about $900 from snap on. Those are the refurbished ones too. I found a couple that say they will relearn the Steering angle sensor but this is different. However, if they can do this, then they should be able to do the ABS procedure. One is Autel MX808. I would not buy this unless you call them and have them tell you that it will perform the ABS initialization procedure on a Chrysler product.

The other one that specifically says it will do it from snap on says to call for the price so you know that is at least a couple thousand dollars.

I understand you may not want to return to the dealer but here is a video that shows how this is done with the dealer tool WiTECH 1. As you will see, this process takes maybe 10 minutes so I would suggest calling the service manager and telling them that you paid for the tech to perform this service and they did not initialize it. I am sure they will bring you back and get it done.

It is really easy.
