Hi there,

I recently bought this truck and when j did I had it looked over by a mechanic and he told me that the problems (in the next paragraph) would be solved if I just replaced the ABS sensor. I did that and it has not fixed the problem. He also looked at it and cleaned out the rear end today (something about magnetism affecting the sensor) but that did not work. I guess I have lost faith in him, and also money! So now I would like to try something else. After researching as much as possible I am wondering if replacing the abs module would fix the issues and wanted to get your opinion.

Problems are :
Speedometer does not move at all.
ABS light is on.
Parking brake light is always on.
Check engine light is always on.
Truck stalls under braking (but not engine braking).

As far as I can tell the engine runs just fine, and manual transmission works fine.

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

James :-)

Have another mechanic scan for codes and either get the codes and get back to us or have mechanic tell you what problem is. speedometer may be a speed sensor on transmission. then for engine braking try cleaning throttle plate on both sides and IAC hole with choke cleaner. also check fuel pressure with a gauge auto parts rent it.

I will try and get the codes for you. Thank you for your reply. One thing though is that the truck does not stall under engine braking, but just pushing the peddle. At first I thought it was down shifting but actually the gears work just fine. This is why I thought maybe it would be related to the sensor too. I know on this truck there is only one sensor, the ABS sensor on the rear end is also the speed sensor etc. Does this information change your answer at all?

Thanks for your help

No because there is one sensor on rear and one for each wheel in front and it could be the ABS unit as well. Until the codes are pulled you are only guessing and that is for everything.
