A thump when accelerating from a standing stop.

I noticed over the past year that my 4runner limited 4x4 has a thump comming somewhere in the drive train, transmission, or differential that occurs when I accelerate from a traffic light or sign. How can I trouble shoot this problem.

Start with checking uni's on the drive shaft, check that the tail shaft bolts are tight, and check rear end suspension and diff mountings for loose or worn components, start here,
