A lot of white smoke while accelerating

I changed out the spark plugs on a 91 Ford Mustang and when I drove it there was a loud metal on metal pop, after that grey smoke was spewing from the tailpipe in large quantities while accelerating and a metal clanging noise. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

did it do this prior to the repair???
why did you change the plugs????

did you use the correct plugs???
