My A/C compressor gave out on my vehicle. Are there any aftermarket bypass pulleys for this car? New compressor et al plus remove freon plus flush out plus tow to get this done = Mucho dinero.
Any thoughts on installing used functional compressor alone and simply not using the A/C.

Hi,

They don't make a bypass belt. Yes, you could install a different compressor and not use it, but there is an easier way.

I attached two pictures below. The first is the belt routing with a functional AC compressor. The second shows the belt routing bypassing the compressor altogether.

To do this, you will need a shorter belt. If there is an AutoZone near you, you need belt part number 362K4 as the replacement shorter belt.

If there is no AutoZone near you, ask at your parts store for a 4-rib serpentine belt that is as close as possible to 36.5"

Let me know if this helps.

Joe

See pics below. Note: The power steering belt is separate and will not need to be touched.

Thanks man. There is in fact an AutoZone nearby. The car runs great otherwise.
With autumn on the way we won't need the A/C much and should be able to come up with a plan by next spring. If nothing else I could drive it to a shop and get the things done that are out of my skill set.

Hi,

You are very welcome. I'm glad to know it helped. As far as winter, I'm not sure where you are located. However, when the defroster is used, the AC compressor normally turns on to help dehumidify the air entering the vehicle. That helps clear the windshield faster. It will still defrost, it just may take a little longer. LOL

If you have a chance, let me know if this works out for you or if you have other questions. Also, disconnect the power connector at the compressor to prevent it from trying to engage.

Take care,

Joe
