It works fine in the morning on the way to work, but on the way home, about four miles it starts blowing warm air, every day since I bought it June 25, 2022. The dealership replaced the condenser before delivery. Carfax said the A/C was recharged/replaced three times since 2021! It doesn't make any sense.

When this happens, is the A/C compressor still engaging? Also, not knowing where you are located, I don't know what type of heat or humidity you experience. When it doesn't work, is the heat excessive? Also, does it work at all when this happens or not at all?

Let me know. It's important that I know if the compressor is engaging when it doesn't work, so listen to see if you hear it clicking on and off.

Here is a link you may find of interest in the interim:

Let me know.

The first thing you should do is check the compressor clutch air gap. Normal spec is 0.3-0.5mm. If it is greater than 0.5mm then you would need to replace the clutch. When removing the clutch there are shims. You can re-use them but just make sure to measure the gap and make sure you fall withing the specification of 0.3-0.5mm.

Okay, I am in Pasadena, MD. It's humid a lot here, especially today. It usually cuts out on my way home from work after driving about 4-5 miles, I have an 8-mile commute. But it didn't do it yesterday, weird. I don't know what a compressor clutch air gap is, I'm a girl and certainly not a mechanic. The dealership supposedly replaced something that starts with a "c" but I'm not sure if it was a condenser or compressor, they sound close.

Joe, how do I tell if the compressor is engaging? Sound? Feeling?

Also, I received the car facts from this dealership, and I saw that the A/C has been serviced three times since June of 2021. That seems excessive, to me, meaning there's definitely something wrong.

It doesn't cut out in the morning on the way to work, or when I drive.25 miles from one building to the other to exchange mail, I work in the mailroom. Only on the way home, after about halfway.

Hi,

The compressor clutch will make a click when it engages. I attached pics below. Pic 1 shows the front of the A/C compressor. In red, I circled a triangular part. When the A/C is off, the pulley will be spinning, but that center part (triangle) won't move. When the A/C is on, that center triangle will click and start to spin with the pulley.

If you look at pic 2, it shows the belt routing for your vehicle. In yellow, I circled the compressor. That pic is specific to your vehicle. So, the compressor on your vehicle is at the bottom, but you should still hear it click on. When it refuses to turn on, open the hood with the engine running and have a helper turn the ac on and off. See if you hear the clicking.

Since this happens at a hotter time of the day, it seems heat related. Metal expands when it gets hot, so I suspect we are losing an electrical contact. We just need to know where. If you find the compressor doesn't turn on, we will need to check if it is getting power. If it is, then it could be the clutch. If there is no power, we need to work backward to determine what is happening. I can help you through it. Also, you indicated you're a girl. One of the best mechanics I've worked with on this site is a girl. LOL, I wish I could hire her.

You take care and let me know what you find.

Joe

Here is a post about checking the clearance. You would need a feeler gauge. I did this test with the compressor out. You can do it in the car also. I removed it because I knew I was going to adjust it.
