A/C blows cold air for around 10 minutes and then just blows hot air the rest of the time driving

I had a leak fixed in it and recharged. I also changed out the relay and fuses. It also blows out a musty smell through vents right as the warm airs starts to blow. Any suggestions on what could be the cause of this?

Hi,

When it starts blowing warm, have you noticed if the A/C compressor is still cycling on and off? If you turn it off and then right back on, does it work?

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-air-conditioner-not-working-or-is-weak

I'm questioning if the evaporator is freezing up or even there were issues with the low side pressure line can freeze up if the Freon is low. I realize you had it done recently, but anything is possible. As far as the evaporator freezing up, often times it is a result of the control module keeping the compressor engaged continuously. If nothing is freezing up, then we will have to check air door actuators. Something could be closing off the evaporator from the inside of the vehicle.

Let me know. Also, let me know if this has automatic climate control or not, if you hear the compressor cycling when there is no cold air, and pay attention to see if the compressor is cycling and not staying engaged all the time.

Take care,
Joe

No, I haven't check the compressor once it starts to do that. I'll look at that tomorrow and get back to you.

Sounds like a plan. Also, when it is working, see if you notice it cycling on and off. It should, otherwise it will freeze up.

Take care,

I just ran the car out in the yard until the air stopped blowing cold and checked under the hood and the compressor was turning on and off while the air was cold, then when it started to blow warm air the compressor is not spinning anymore when the air is on. What needs to be replaced? Just the clutch?

Hi,

The only way to confirm if it is the clutch is by checking if it is getting power. If it is and not engaging, then yes, the clutch.

Are you able to confirm that?

Hi,

Keep in mind, there are other things that can cause it to turn off. A faulty pressure switch, temp sensors, and so on. That is why I suggested check if there is power. If there is, the clutch is the likely cause. If there is no power, then we need to dig in further.

I wasn't able to check the power because I started back at work. I am taking it to my shop that I had original work done to fix the Freon leak. I am passing on all of our conversation.
