It sounds like a plastic gear is slipping, or trying to shut a door that is already shut.

It sounds like it coming from behind the speedometer.

I only here it when I turn on A/C not the heater.

Thanks.

Good afternoon,

This sounds like the blend door actuator motor. Common noise when the gears are slipping.

If I do nothing about the noise, am I doing damage? Will it eventually break?

Hello, I'm Danny.

Yes, damage is being caused to the plastic gears. If the problem isn't fixed over time when the gears are stripped the blend door will stay closed and not be operational. You will then have no control out of the vents when using the heat or air conditioning systems. We suggest fixing this as soon as possible to prevent further damage and cost to the hvac system. Hope this this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

As Danny said the system will not work correctly. You may end up stuck on either full heat or air conditioning.
