98 chevy metro manual transmission bound up

I have a 1998 chevy metro..1.0 3 cyl with 5 speed manual trans... if you put it in gear and let out on the clutch it just bogs out and dies like it doesn't want to move.... I can go through gears smoothly except for 5th which it seems to not want to go in..... my father in law could get it to move but would have to Rev it up very high to do so... it acts like it's bound up almost as if it wants to go in 2 gears at once

check to see if the cables are ok and shifting you can do this with car off. it may be a synchro inside trans however also check fluid level.

Yes even while car is off.... won't go into 5th.. while started car won't move... once reved up high it will move some

with the mileage you have on it , it's probably the synchronizer inside the trans for 5th gear, it's either shot or a bearing and the only way to tell is to tear it apart or get another trans. If it does not take off in first which you said it does then that rules out the clutch.
