I have a obd1 vehicle with obd2 connector under the dash, my bidirectional scanner will not communicate with abs system. is there a connector that will allow my obd2 scanner to communicate with abs system?, or does this require a specific scanner?

There is NO adapter that will make a normal OBD-II scanner talk to the ABS on your 1995 Blazer. You need either a GM-capable bi-directional scanner (Tech-1/Tech-2 class) or you must pull ABS flash codes manually.

OPTION 1 - Pull ABS flash codes (most common & reliable)

GM designed ABS codes to be read without a scanner.

ABS Code Retrieval Procedure (1995 Blazer)

Key OFF

Locate ALDL port

Jumper: Pin A (ground) - Pin H (ABS diagnostic)

Turn key ON

ABS light will flash codes

Example: Flash-flash-pause-flash = Code 21

Do NOT jumper random pins - ABS pin is H, not B like engine codes. Please let me know how it goes.

Thanks Ken, this vehicle has the 16 pin connector. Is there still a way to jump pins on this design? Thanks, And Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! Yep, this can be tricky because you are on the line of obd1 and obd2. Will the scanner work on the engine part of the system? I would check the connector fuse # 7 in the fuse panel under the dash.

Sorry for the delay, (holiday and bonus water line break). Fuse 7 is good, scanner will only connect to air bag system, no engine or abs. My quest is to auto bleed the abs system but i believe the module may be bad. Sensors all test good. Trying to find a reasonable tech 2 scanner to confirm as i don't have a scanner capable of reading obd1, which i have confirmed this vehicle is. Thanks for the help, if there is anything else i'm missing here please let me know. Thanks again!

You are going in the right direction, it is confusing because you are in the middle of a large production change. Did you try ebay for the scanner? Please let me know what you find.

Hi Ken, just wanted to let you know what unfolded. I suspected a faulty abs unit and found an old school OTC Genisys on ebay (What a cool tool for OBD1.5) to confirm. Also found an ABS module on ebay. After installing abs unit and clearing history codes bled, the entire system twice, and everything is as good as ever. Been a long journey with this one, just wanted to say thanks for your time! Happy New Year!
