My car was a perfect daily driver, one night it shut off after starting, started up again and it was fine, next day perfect, but when I left work everything on interior, lights and fan and stereo kept flashing/restarting over and over and the engine starts up but shuts right off. Sometimes immediately sometimes after a couple seconds, its still happening. I replaced alternator and terminals and checked connections, still can't figure out my problem. I'm sure it's not fuel related, it's an electrical problem. Its a v6 engine 3.5 I believe. It was a perfect car before this started happening, occurred in winter like January. It had a brand new battery in it also. Please help! Is it maybe the PCM or ECM? Or the computer?

Also it might help to mention that in the weeks before this problem started, I ran over a car battery that someone left in the middle of the highway. I couldn't swerve to avoid it because of heavy traffic so I had to drive over it. I felt a thud when I went over it it wasn't a very bad impact and the problem didn't start immediately. So i'm not sure if it's related. Also when the car was running, with key in ignition, you would have to turn the key slightly more in order for the A/C and stereo to turn on, but I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem. I bought the Haynes full repair manual for the car and looked in the troubleshooting section and followed advice but I haven't been able to figure it out. I might have to take it to a mechanic soon but trying to save money on diagnosis or maybe have a better idea for what to have them look for.

Hi,

Have you tried moving the ignition switch again? If all the lights came on, it almost sounds like the ignition was moved. Also, have you checked under the vehicle for damage from the battery?

Do me a favor. Go through this link. It explains how to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes from an OBD1 system, which this vehicle has. Hopefully, it will point us in the right direction. Also, you don't need a scan tool to do this.

Let me know what you find.

I actually checked my engine codes before the problem started, by turning the key in the ignition and the only code it showed was for the A/C fan condenser relay I believe? But I will look into that link you sent and hopefully I can get more info from the cars computer. Also what do you mean by did I move the ignition switch? I haven't messed with the ignition or ignition switch, only put the key in the ignition and tried starting. Ever since the problem started whenever I use the key in ignition all interior lights flash repeatedly and the A/C and stereo keep restarting as well so I feel like it might be the car's computer or something like the PCM. I haven't jacked up the car to fully inspect underneath for damage but I have crawled under it I haven't noticed any damage yet.

Also, i'm not sure that I will be able to receive the engine codes anymore, because the battery has been drained and disconnected so many times since the vehicle was able to drive. I tried checking for codes once since it has been sitting and it didn't work that time, but I'll try again tomorrow and let you know what happens.

Hi,

Let me know what you find. Also, if you can, record what is happening and upload it for me to see.

Take care,
