Is the filter itself leaking where the rubber gasket meets the engine? As far as the poor acceleration, can you describe how it is running? Has the timing been check? Is there a misfire? Does the vehicle still have the original type ignition (points and condenser)?

When you say adapter, are you referring to the canister the filter is placed in?

No there is an o ring in the adapter between the engine block and the oil filter, not sure what adapter is there for, but when oil changed they replaced the o ring and whould not stop leaking.

Not leaking at engine or oil filter.
