I have replaced the front actuator and the shift sensor on the transfer case. As soon as I turn the key on my 4 wheel drive engages even with the floor selector in 2wd. Please help.

Hi,

Does the floor shifter feel like it has the normal resistance? I have to be honest, that is a mechanical shifter and there isn't a lot to go bad. Have you checked the linkage between the shift lever and the transfer case?

Here are directions for adjusting the shift lever linkage for the transfer case. The attached pic correlates with the directions.

Shift Linkage Adjust
Vehicle Transmission and Drivetrain Transfer Case Adjustments

See pic 1

1. Place shift lever in the 4 HI position.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then disconnect linkage rod from console shift lever.
3. Shift transfer case into 4 HI position. Lever should be in full forward detent, Fig. 1.
4. Adjust swivel to align with hole in console shift lever.
5. Install linkage rod into shift lever.

Let me know if that helps.

I checked shift lever linkage and it's adjusted properly. The lever itself transitions good. I can feel every detent. I still have power to the front axle actuator as soon as I turn on my key. How does the switch on the transfer case work? Is it possible I got a bad switch?

Hi,

It's possible that the switch is bad. Have you checked the transfer case relay? It's located in the rear of engine compartment near center of cowl. See the attached pic.

Let me know.
