Over the weekend I was driving, when suddenly I noticed a slight stiffness in the steering wheel. Shortly after that the "Service Power Steering Drive with Care" message displayed on the DIC. About an hour after once I turned the vehicle off and restarted it the wheel was completely stiffed and hard to turn. I was able to get to the mechanic/auto technician to be checked.

After doing a computer/scanner test he got the code:
Power Steering Control Module: C055C-00 (Steering Gear Performance) and I think C0800-12 (Control Module Power Circuit - Low Input). He then did a reset and the codes cleared and steering went back to normal. About 10 minutes after driving the message came back again along with slight stiffness in the wheel. By the next morning the wheel was completely stiffed again. He then did a scan and reset, and the same thing happened again. So basically, the power steering goes and comes right back after being cleared. So, we do not understand if it's the rack and pinion, or module or some communication error. Also, my power steering is electric so no reservoir for fluid to be added.

Thanks for your help in advance with this.

Yep, you are correct, the electric motor for the steering rack is going bad which makes the system go into limp mode. Some say you can replace just the motor while most garages would just replace the entire rack and pinion. Here are the instructions to do both so you can see what needs to be done to fix it. You will need to clear the codes once the job is completed. Check out the images (below). Please upload pictures or videos in your response of any problems so we can see what to help you with.

Thanks for the instructions! Can you confirm which of these images are the correct electric motor for the steering rack?

It looks like the first one is correct. I would make sure the part numbers are the same.

Update:
When checking the part at the garage we discovered that it’s actually the one I attached in the image below. I need help with knowing is the car opt code NJ2, GNA or NV7? Also, I read online that the part numbers are interchangeable. Mine is 23146238, the others I’m finding are 23146406 can this work?

To determine one of the option codes NJ2, GNA, or NV7, you can check the "Service Parts Identification (RPO) Label" found inside the trunk, under the spare tire cover, or on the driver's side door jamb.

My label was damaged, would a VIN report work? Or can I send you the VIN to verify?

The dealer would be the only people I know that can give you that information.
