2017 Ford F-150 3.5 EcoBoost P0193 – What should I check next?

Hi everyone,

My 2017 Ford F-150 3.5 EcoBoost has been acting up lately.

The truck starts fine, but it hesitates under acceleration and recently threw a P0193 code.

I'm using an ANCEL scanner, so while looking up the code on ANCEL's website I found this P0193 troubleshooting guide

It recommends checking the FRP sensor, wiring, fuel pressure, and regulator before replacing parts.

Does that sound like the right order, or is there something else I should test first?

I'd rather diagnose it properly before throwing parts at it.

That code basically means the PCM is reading a high signal from the fuel pressure sensor for a long period. The PCM tries to control the fuel pressure by controlling the fuel pump speed through the fuel pump control module. It can be set the code if the pump is not properly controlled, the wiring from the sensor has an issue or the sensor itself has a problem. I would start by testing the signal from the sensor, that might be possible on your tool if it reads fuel pressure, if it doesn't then you could use a multimeter to read the signal by back probing the wiring. The next step would be to test the fuel pressure directly using a pressure gauge. The pump driver is a common failure but so is the sensor. The sensor itself is under the intake manifold on the fuel rail.
