My uncle is using SAE 40 engine oil for lubricating his tricycle instead of SAE 20W50. How will this affect his vehicle.

a tricycle? hardly not at all there is no engine correct?

Its not a tricycle. It is bajaj 3 wheel car and four stoke single cylinder actually.

40 is ok but if 20w50 is recommended then use that the 40 won't hurt anythingif it gets cold it will be harder to start but that is about it.

Thanks hmac300....I was thinking it could lead to smoking problem before. I thought due to the difference in the viscosity of the recommended oil not use, the valve oil seal and the piston rings will not function properly.

If ambient temperature are constant, there is no harm in using SAE40.
