THE OLE "SNATCH THE CABLE OFF, WHILE IT'S RUNNING TRICK" WILL FRY A COMPUTER AND OTHER STUFF TOO!
WAY BACK IN THE EARLY 1970s AND FURTHER BACK, THIS COULD BE DONE, BACK THEN YOU MIGHT POSSIBLY FRY THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR. BUT BACK THEN, THAT WAS AN INEXPENSIVE FIX.
COMPUTERIZED AND ELECTRONIC STUFF IS NOT ONLY EXPENSIVE, BUT IS HARD TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR, NOT TO MENTION THE VEHICLE BEING OUT OF SERVICE FOR A WHILE.
IF YOU NEED TO TEST OR SEE IF YOUR ALTERNATOR IS CHARGING THE BATTERY
1) WITH THE VEHICLE OFF, TEST THE BATTERY POSTS W/ A VOLTMETER SET TO "DC VOLTS". YOU SHOULD GET ABOUT 12-13 VOLTS
2) NOW CRANK UP THE VEHICLE, DO THE EXACT SAME TEST AS (1), IF THE ALTERNATOR IS CHARGING, THE VOLTAGE AT THE BATTERY POSTS WILL INCREASE TO ABOUT 13.8-14.5 VOLTS
