The dealer said that the transmission fluid is ok and they even top up the fluid. But this did not made any changes or improvement. I need to remove the transmission so I can get it rebuilt. Thanks.

Hi,

Removing and replacing the transmission is a somewhat difficult job. Not because it requires a lot of knowledge, but rather because you are working with heavy components.

If you look at the attachments below, they include the pics and directions specific to your vehicle for removal and replacement.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

I am getting ready to pull the transmission from my caravan. Are there any secrets or good advice for a guy doing this job himself? I have the Haynes manual, but it's always good to hear from people who've actually done it themselves. 2001 caravan SE, 3.3, 4 speed tranny.

All advice and help will be greatly appreciated!

Thank You!

Honestly, it is a straight forward job. Pull the axles, unbolt the wiring harness, remove the engine to trans bolts, trans mounts, linkage, torque converter bolts, and it should come right out.

If you run into trouble, let me know and I'll do my best to guide you. One word of advice, make sure it is a direct fit transmission. Otherwise, you may end up with sensor problems and communication errors with the computer.

Thanks for that advice. How do I make sure if it's a direct fit? Do you always replace the torque converter too? How would I know if that's bad?

Thank You!

Just make sure to get one from the same year make and model. Do a visual inspection for any differences. As far as the torque converter, I recommend replacing it. It can contain metal shavings, dirt, and other things that can damage the new transmission.

Again, let me know if you have questions or concerns.

Hello, You can just take the transaxle(41TE) out and let the engine hang, use a board, drill a hole on it and place one end on the K-frame and the other up against the front lower mount stud, one will fit into the hole, use a washer and nut, 10mm.Let this setup support the engine, or you can use a jackstand if you have one. You need a trans jack, no special tools except, if your going to move the van, you'll need to stick two axle stubs, one in each hub, after you take the axles out, ok. I hope your using air. Are you doing this job on the ground? I have about 7 boards and 18 stubs. Its a very quick job. Pays 2.8 hours warranty, but take your time, Use a new or reman converter and take out the crankshaft sensor, for sure. If you have any questions, just ask, good goin.
