The ac compressor appears to have failed. The inner portion of the pulley is sticking out of the main body and the compressor does not engage. Is this a safe point of failure or could more damage occur if driven?

Can you upload a pic for me to see. I'm not sure what is sticking out.

It is really hard to see. Can you put a light on it? Also, is it a bolt? That is what it looks like, but I'm not sure. It could be the bolt that attaches the clutch assembly.
