When the red "Brake" warning light is on it is usually not an anti-lock system problem. The yellow "ABS" light is on because of the red light. The Anti-lock Brake System Computer may be incapable of running the system because of a problem in the base brake system, so it turns the system off, and turns the yellow light on to tell you.
The red light turns on for one of up to three reasons. Most commonly the brake fluid level is low. Unless there's a leak, that is due to worn front disc brake pads that are ready to be replaced. If there is a leak, there will be unequal pressures in the two hydraulic systems, and that will turn on the red warning light. The third possible cause is a parking brake that isn't fully released.
