Hello,

When the service engine light gets illuminated, it means that the on-board diagnostic system has detected an issue with one of the engine sensors. It can also be due to an issue with an emission component.
There could be number to reasons why the light is on. It can even be as simple as a bad fuel cap.

The best course of action is to have the vehicle scanned for fault codes. As this will help with the diagnostics of why the light is on. You can get the vehicle scanned at your local auto parts store.
