I am looking for a diagram for the plug wires to the distributor cap connections. I know the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. While replacing the (crab type) cap, rotor, plugs and wires, I messed up bad by not labeling the wires on the cap. The engine is a Vortek 5.7L 350. It is a K1500 4X4 automatic. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Thank You. Just to be sure, I connected wire one to cap position one, and so on. Is this correct? The service engine light was illuminated prior to this. I hooked up my Digital OrbitII Code Reader, and it displayed P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected. This was before I changed the wires per your diagram. I believe I need to figure out how to clear the code, and scan it again. Lastly, I noticed a strong gas smell when I fired it up, and a grayish/black smoke came out of the tailpipe. If you think I should do something else, please let me know, otherwise, I appreciate your response and help. Aloha from Hawaii!

Yes, just match up the number 2 to 2 3 to 3 etc. The smell of gas may just be do to the misfire, so complete the plug wire and see what happens. Your scanner may have a way to clear the codes check the manual for it. Post finding here.

Code cleared, no new codes. Gas smell gone, and no smole from tailpipe. All in all, everything works great! Thanks for the help! :)

Does the diagram also apply to the 5.0l Vortec? I have a 1999 k1500 with the 305 that is putting out the same code, so if the diagram is also for the 5.0 Vortec i will check my plug wires. Thanks in advance.

Sure. For the 4.3L engines: 1-6-5-4-3-2 distributor rotation: Clockwise.

For the 5.0L, 5.7L and 7.4L engines: 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 distributor rotation: Clockwise.

i do not know off the top of my head, but look real close to the distributor cap it is marked right on it. The drivers side front cylinder is number one and pass front cylinder is number two. So drivers side is 1-3-5-7 and passenger side 2-4-6-8.

Engine Mechanical problem
1997 Chevy Silverado V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I changed my plugs and wires, and it started fine and ran ok except for a stuttering at acceleration. I went to Auto Zone and they had me rewire the plug wires. I did this and now it wont start or anything. Is there anywhere I can find correct distributor cap to plug wiring diagram?

Changed plugs and wires and got firing order wrong at the distributor initially, checked your forum, then got correct order, I think. Now I have little power and repeated back-fires. Any suggestions, kind of stuck where I'm at, literally!
Thanks in advance!

If you have the firing order correct, I would check the gap on the plugs to be sure they are correct.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-change-spark-plugs

Inspect the inside of the distributor cap as well for any cracks or carbon tracking. That will also cause a backfire.
