2011 Chevrolet Malibu occasionally getting code U0101-00 lost communication with transmission control module

2011 Chevrolet Malibu randomly getting code U0101-00 lost communication with transmission control module. It would run fine for long periods of time then suddenly it will trigger reduced engine power and this code will appear, the car will usually be fine after it's restarted. So far I have checked the grounds and cleaned them, checked wiring and continuity, however I did not do the complete extensive check mostly visual and I haven't found anything damaged or any water or oxidation damage at the connectors. At this point I am suspecting a TCM being an issue, they are fairly cheap used and easy to access so I was wondering if I get a used one does the part number have to match or are they interchangeable if they are the same ones with the same connector and can the used ones be programmed to my car?
