That should only happen if you are spinning a tire or an ABS sensor has gone out. What happens is the engine is powered down to help stop the spin. That is why there is little power. If it is happening when the vehicle isn't spinning, chances are you have a bad wheel sensor. Here are two guides to help fix the problem.

Please run down these guides and report back.

When I start my car in the morning, my message center comes on and says "service traction system" and my abs and trac light turn on. Then after driving I turn off the car and turn it back on and it wont come on. It only comes on sometimes. I had a mechanic check it out and says nothing is wrong with the car. I am getting ready to sell the car. Can I fix this easy? Where is the fuse located for the message center?
Thanks

Have car scanned with ABS scanner, it may be as simple as a wheel sensor. ABS codes are "C" chassis codes.

Hi:
The two systems work together. Have the computer scanned for codes. Most nationally recognized parts stores will do it for free.

Let me know what you find.

Joe

I just got my Air conditioning system replaced. After we got into the car and started driving, we noticed the ABS and TRAC OFF lights were on. They were not on prior to getting the A/C repaired. I have already had the hubs replaced within the last year and I am just hoping that maybe there is a wiring harness of something that maybe they had to disconnect and forgot to reconnect when they replaced the A/C. The gasket on the compressor was shot and they replaced that and 2 other components that require replacement when "cracking open" the system.

Thanks for any help you can give.

We took it in this morning and after about 2 hours they rescheduled us because they couldn't get any codes to show. The comp and the reader were not working together.

My Impala has the low traction feature and lately it has been engaging at inappropriate times (not icy or wet, etc). There was a message the light that stated SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM. So I took it into the shop and they said it could be a sensor in the ABS or they were not sure. I made an appointment, took it in and of course it would not do what it was doing prior to taking it in for repair. As soon as I left the car started doing it again. The low traction kicks in all the time when I am braking. Could this be something with my tires needing replaced? Brakes? And if it is something in the traction system, is this an expensive fix? I use my car for my work and so it is important to have it working properly as soon as possible but not sure what needs fixed.

Do you know if they checked for trouble code. Next time it does it do not turn it off and go to that shop right away that way the code stays in the system and then they can scan the vehicle for you

You may have a bad speed sensor or a bad ABS ring on one of the axles.
You would have to retrieve the codes from the ABS module to really see what the issue is.

My car will jerk and shut off while going down the road. Before it had an error code for the 02 sensor and I replaced all of them as well as the fuel pump, spark plugs, wires, cat converter, fuel filters, etc etc etc etc. Now there is no check engine light on but it will still shut down the car and will show the 'service traction system' light on as well as shut off the traction system completely. I can restart it almost immediately and the light will go off for a while but then will do it again. Ive taken it several places and have also had diagnostics done on it in the shop AND on the road. No one can tell me whats wrong! Im very frustrated with this. PLEASE HELP ME!

Can you explain exactly what the car does? Jerk and shut off? Does it do this only when coming to a complete stop? Do you know the code for the traction problem?

I have replaced just about everything to do with the fuel system except the injectors. As of now, there is no check engine light on but when I drive it, usually at highway speeds, it will all of the sudden cut out, jump forward and lose power and starts slowing down and when I try to keep on the gas, the car will shut down and a message will come up that says 'service traction system' and will shut off the car and the traction system automatically. But even with the traction system off, the car will still do the same thing. But no there is no code that comes up for the traction system problem which leads me to believe its something else. Please help me out guys!

The traction and asb light comes on when turning hard left or right ans sometimes just taking off straight. When turning right or left you here like a metal to metal sound. Just had all 4 wheel brakes about 10,000 miles ago.

Sounds like the front hub bearings are bad. Take it back to the shop that did the brakes and have them look at it.
