A friend told me she has gone thru 4 trannies in 5 years. She was told it is because she has to back up her steep 25 foot driveway every nite for safety reasons. I think she has an auto trans but not sure. Would this excess backing cause her trannie to fail? If she got a 4-wheel drive vehicle would that help the problem ? Many thanks

I can tell you it's not real good for the transmission. You didn't mention if it's reverse that is failing in the transmission. Reverse is the weakest gear and not designed to carry heavy loads of constant backing on a severe incline. She may just have to drive into the driveway instead of backing in.
