While changing my air filter I noticed a little black hose, about 1/4 in in diameter and 4 inches long attached to some sort of sensor? near the firewall. The other end of that hose is not connected to anything, should it be? I could not see a obvious place to connect but visual was limited. Performance seems ok and no indicator lights have come on.

If there are any hoses sticking out of any sensors or solenoids, it should be connected to something. sometimes it is just connected to the air cleaner hose for breathing purposes. Without knowing what component you are refering to I am not able to tell you what it is.
