I hit a large puddle while driving, it slowed down the car considerably. Now there is a grinding sound from under the engine while idle. What should I do?

If the noise is there idling and not driving, you may have stoved in the engine sump, have a look to see if it is bent, this will be quite obvious.

Thanks for the response! The grinding sound also happens when getting up to about 30mph, after getting to that speed it stops.

You will need to get the engine & transmission checked by a mechanic on a hoist, something has been damaged here.

Thanks again, I will be sure to take it to a mechanic, but I had one last question. The car still drives fine, do you think this an urgent matter that should be taken care of ASAP? I have finals and won't be able to get it looked at until next week.

If it is making a grinding noise, chances are that it is doing some damaged, let it go to long and it may do serious damage, if it was mine, i would be getting it looked at ASAP.
