How do you drain the water from the fuel filter on a GL350 with the diesel engine

Would like to drain the fuel filter just to see if any water has accumulated, no warnings are present.

if they didn't put a drain on it if there's a sensor you could remove it? has it ever acted up on you because of water problem?
