Drove e-brake on until it started smoking

about 4 blocks. How do I know if it is okay or if it is toast?

it really needs to be physically checked. but if it still works okay then it may just need adjustment.

You need to take it somewhere and have the rear brakes and components inspected to be on the safe side unless you have experience do that.
