2010 Kia Cerato steering problem

Dear Sir,
I have a kia cerato 2010 (mileage 80000 km).. recently i have notived a noise a (tek sound) in the stearing....the mechanics in my place told me that i have to replace the steering engine and it gonna cost about 3000$US...Is this sound dangerous...should i really replace the steering motor"

Noises from the steering motor or rack are quite common and are mostly due to lack of lubricants. Rectification can be made by applying grease to the steering shaft roller bearings and this is something that is not of a safety concern.
