My jeep only needs a jump start when I initially fire the vehicle. If I turn it off and start it again it does not need to be jumped. The check engine light is now on. What could cause this?

Probably a bad battery. Have it tested.

Check all the battery connections for corrosion, check the wires coming from the altinator. If you are near a auto parts store have them check the charging system. The engine light can come on if a sensor is bad. They can tell you when they scan the jeep in referance to the altinator. The voltage regulator is in the altinator. .

This car only has a problem after being parked. It starts fine after being driven so we are not looking at an alternator problem. Like I said in the first response, test the battery.

The altinator may be putting out enough voltage after jumping it then driving it but the voltage regulator may be slowely grounding the battery, yes check the battery but there are other things that can do it. Have a firebird here and it has a new battery, check out ok, with battery fully charged the car can sit for a week then the battery is only a little over half charged. That is just from sitting even though the weather has not been under 40 degrees.
