Is it true that modern engine timing is accomplished by constant spark plug firing & ignition timing caused by fuel ingjection controled by computer?

Basically, yes. The computer controls fuel injection and ignition timing among many other things. Most cars have a direct ignition system that doesn't use a distributor and firs 2 cylinders simultaneously.

Actually the number of cyl is supplied by the number of coils. Each coil having 2 outputs. 4 cyl has 2 coils. 8 cyl 4 coils, 6 cyl 3.
