Won’t Move Forward After Oil Change — Reverse Works?

On October 14, I took my normally driving vehicle to a Chevrolet dealership for an oil change and tire rotation.

During service, they reported a faulty wheel bolt/lug nut and quoted $213.92 for 16 lug nuts. I declined, and they stopped the tire rotation. They completed the oil change.

Their inspection report marked the transmission and drive axle as checked and OK.

After service, I noticed side-to-side vibration. The next morning, the engine revved in Drive but wouldn’t move forward. Reverse still worked. The tow-truck driver noticed a puddle of brown fluid underneath the front or middle.

The dealership recommended a $7,426 transmission replacement without identifying the exact failure. They requested another $299.95 for further diagnosis, later waived the $169.95 initial diagnostic fee, but still demand towing payment. The service manager now refuses further work.

My questions:

1. Could an oil-change mistake, transmission-fluid loss, or interrupted tire rotation explain these symptoms?

2. What specific tests would establish the cause?

3. Could the dealership be responsible for the damage, and what evidence would establish that?

4. Is replacing the transmission justified without identifying the failure?
