Cruise Control/Brake Malfunction
I was driving with cruise control on at 100kph. I was approaching 3 vehicles traveling at slower speed and applied the brake to disengage cruise control. Brake pedal pushed to the floor with little to no resistance, cruise control DID NOT disengage.

I repeatedly moved the cruise control lever towards me to disengage cruise control, no effect. By this time I had to cross into the oncoming lane of traffic because I was overtaking the other vehicles by this time. This is a 2 lane highway and we were terrified and incredibly lucky that no other traffic was in the oncoming lane. We finally turned off the ignition and the vehicle slowed and came to a stop.

I called the Toyota dealership and they say there is no recall on cruise control or other issues. I drive a 2009 Toyota Matrix 1.8l, approx 86 000 km.

Anytime the throttle gets stuck put the car in neutral and hit the brakes, the engine will rev but no harm will come from it. Take it in the Toyota and stop driving it, they have had a big problem with this issue.
