I put what I thought was gas from a gas can into my gas tank and shortly after the car died, never yet to start again. This idiot I know sprayed starting fluid, like 5 cans!!! into the intake. The car is now at a mechanic and they are telling me the fuel injectors are caked in sludge. Was that caused by me putting water into the gas tank or was that caused by the starting fluid??? Or a combination???

What ever you placed in the fuel tank must have caused it. Starting fluid evaporates within a few seconds and was sprayed into the throttle body (at least that is where is should have been sprayed). As a result, it never went through the fuel injectors.

You need to drain the tank, blow out the fuel lines and rail, clean the injectors and then it should be fine.
