how to identify short to ground in cicuit by using multimeter?

With one probe of multimiter attached to wire to be tested and body of vehicle, if there is any continuity with very low ohms, there is a short, unless the wire is supposed to be a ground wire.

Some components attached to the wire might provide ground so components have to be disconnected first.
