I changed my oil for the first time the other day. The car was running loudly and there was a smell of oil for a few days. I investigated and realized I forgot to replace the oil cap. I stopped using the car, and after two days I got a new one. Now the car won't start even though I added new oil to make up for what was lost, where might the problem be, and can I fix it myself?

that depends on how much oil you lost and how much you added.

The dipstick indicates it is within the proper range, I added in about a quart of oil.
