Hello,

Start with my car, Ford Fiesta Zetec S 2009 1.6 TDCI. 103000 miles. 4000 miles ago had cambelt, water pump, aux belt, fuel filter, air filter, fuel filter, pollen filter & oil changed.

Past month I have been having a very intermittent fault (fault code po299). A garage said its an under boost condition. I can be driving along fine at 70-80 MPH but if I go to take over a car or go up a steep hill (putting load on the engine) it will start to loose power then loose all turbo power and the powertrain light comes on and it goes into limp mode. The engine light has come on with it too some times. Then if I pull over turn off my car and start it up again all power is restored and drives fine till its put under load again. The turbo sounds fine and there is no movement on the internal rod. I have checked all the turbo pipes in and out of the turbo ect no cracks or splits. No blockages in the air intake pipes etc.

The garage that I have taken it said it maybe the turbo actuator sticking but they were not 100% because its so intermittent. They said the actuator can not be changed it has to have a whole new turbo at £700 part cost including fitting.

Looking forward to your reply.

Thankyou
Ross

First and foremost, we need to check for software updates as this issue has been reported and there is a software update that will address this code.

However, if the update does not fix it then we need to address the two main causes of this code.

First is the throttle body has carbon build up in it and it will cause a restriction in the intake.

What this code is telling you is that the turbo is not producing the boost that the ECM is calling for. So that means either the air can't get into the engine due to the throttle issue, or you have a leak.

If the issue is intermittent then this could be the turbo or actuator as suggested. I am attaching the other possible causes that we have to work through below.

Please run through this info and let us know what you find. Thanks
