I recently purchased a new 2009 F150 4X4 with the electronic 6 speed automatic transmission. I noticed from the very begining that it did not seem to shift smoothly. This does not happen all the time but quite often, usually at slow speeds and in the lower qears. There seems to be a shudder as the transmission shifts between gears. A couple of times I felt the transmission breifly shifting, up and down, between gears as if it was unsure of what gear to go into. A couple of times I was going up a steep street that t'ed at the top I would keep up speed to get to the top of the hill but as I let off the throttle to make a turn and then step on the throttle again the transmission made a violent "bang" as it shifted gears.
I took the vehicle into the Ford garage and when I picked it up, they said that they had reset the ASM and the TSM and that the problem was solved. After driving the truck for awhile it seemed as though there might have been a slight improvement, but the problem still existed. The service center asked me to bring it back in and have the service manager go for a ride with me . I did this and the service manager said that he was aware of the problem and that the Ford Motor Company was also aware of it and was working on a solution. He said that it was a computer problem and that they were working on some type of reprogram. Do you know if this is true or not and if not, do you have any sugestions on a solution?

I believe there is a bulletin on that. However, at this point there has been no recall.

I am having a similar problem. My transmission started shifting when pulling my trailer on a flat highway. Now it is shifting on flat highway with no load. Gas mileage is now getting worse. The dealer has re calibrated the transmission three times and has suggested they change the fuel ratio. Opinions?

I also have the same shifting problems around the slow and lower gears, had my vehicle to the dealer several times and they would calibrate the transmission modual, there would be a noticeable improvement but only lasted a few weeks. I gave up complaining and only hope serious transmission issues raise it's ugly head while I still have warranty coverage. Ford is fully aware of these tranny issues as there never seems to be surprise reaction from the dealer when complaining about the shifting, one would think a fix is out there?
