If it is getting spark and fuel, it should start unless there is an issue with fuel pressure, weak spark, timing, low compression.

When you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds?

Hi there, its got new rings, bearings and gaskets, and plugs, cam is positioned at 12, crank at 6, tdc, lot of spark, I have removed the fuel rail to look at amount of fuel when swinging and squirts good, could it maybe have anything to do with a knock sencor or something, when I swing her she swings faster and with slight pressure on petrol she swings faster like she wants to start

Will it start if you use starting fluid? Is the spark a hot blue snapping spark?

I haven't tried the fluid yet and the spark is sort of blue
I might think it a electrical problem cause picked up today that only my battery light on the dash does not come on but all the others do and when I switch the ignition off the lights still stay on although the key is turned off, also replaced the ignition backing section cause mine was not working like it should but still nothing, could it be the ecu

The company I bought the bakkie from said that the car just stopped driving and then I tried to start it but did the same as its doing now, so I thought it might be compression cause it was lower than it should be at first and then decided to overhaul the engine but problem remains, so another technician today said its sounds like ecu but don't understand how it could be that if it has spark and fuel

The dash lights also don't stay on all the time
after the 3rd attempt or so of swinging then everything works properly again

That's the thing. If it is getting both fuel and spark, it should run. The only thing that could prevent it would be timing, low compression. When it doesn't start, try the starting fluid. If that makes it start, there is a fuel related issue. If it doesn't start with starting fluid, then it is ignition related.

Hi Jacob and Nikolas, I have the almost the same problem as Zaneny, one of my friend sujested that the problem might be the timing because the car had a hard knock the front. The problem I dont understand what my friend means by suggesting timing and how to fix that timing as well.

Yesterday while driving saw my car overheating, I stopped and bridged the fan and let it run for about 40 minutes while the engine was off. Then after 1 hour 30 minutes started the car and went home. This morning the car started fine and idled for about 5 minutes then shut off and now it cranks but won't start. (Should it starts, it won't idle for 2 minutes)

Hi:

If it overheated bad enough, there could be a head gasket issue. Do me a favor. Here is a link that explains how to check for a bad head gasket. I realize it ran okay at first, but damage may have been done and now the problem showed up.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/head-gasket-blown-test

Let me know what you find.

Joe

Hi Joe, thanks for the response. Though this morning tried starting it again and wouldn't start. Then I took that bottom pipe that goes into the injector rail in the hood out and tried to start it, no petrol came out of that pipe.
Then I took out the petrol tank to take the pump out where after I plugged it directly on the battery and it made no sound and now am on my way back to the car with a new petrol pump. Will let you know what happens.

Hello,

It sounds like you have a starter that has gone out which is common for these cars. Here is a guide that will show you how to test for power at the trigger wire on the starter solenoid and then what you are in for when replacing the starter if it is bad.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-replace-a-starter-motor

Please run this test and get back to us so we can continue helping you.

Cheers, Ken

Hi, thank you for your response, but, the link that you gave me sends me to the How to Change the starter tutorial and Not the Test for power at the trigger wire guide.

Am I reading it wrong?
