Engine light on, code E023

I bought the vehicle listed above (P71) a few months back, runs perfect no issues there, but both back window buttons didn’t work, did some digging found out there was a connector disconnected for them, connected it, made sure windows worked. next day go out to go to work, start it up and check engine light comes on. took it to AutoZone to have codes scanned, nothing came up. tried a different code scanner still nothing. tried resetting the system by unhooking ground to battery for a few minutes, hooked it back up, still on. decided to just try replacing the plugs, cleaning MAF sensor, checked air filter, oil, checked the EGR valves hoses for cracks or leaks, nothing! decided to unhook the back window connector and the check engine light is still on. found out that if you just turn the key on and not start it, wait a few seconds and the engine light blinks 8 times, then stays on constant. after digging realized Ford's have the self diagnostic, tried that and DTC code E023 popped up. been digging for what that might mean and can’t seem to find anything relating to the problem. I need to found out why the engine light is on.

That code is for the blend door actuator in the A/C system and has nothing to do with the check engine light.

The check engine light is for fuel control issues for the engine.

That’s weird lol, but yes, the check engine light is on and on the self diagnostics, it showed me that code (E023) and on a few forums online I found it translates to OBD2 code U2023 (not sure if that is correct or not), but yes the check engine light is on. If you just turn the key on without starting, the light will flash 8 times if that helps narrow anything down, but as you were stating door blend actuator not dealing with the check engine light at all, how would the engine light be on then? And from you asking where I got the code P71, it means police interceptor, because my car is a 2009 crown Victoria police interceptor (aka P71). But with the engine light on, it doesn’t effect the driving or running of the vehicle, but I seen with that door blend actuator, it stated a lot of info about A/C and heat related issues, and I’m not having issues with either of those. So either DTC code E023 or OBD2 code U2023 is what I’m dealing with if that helps, and thank you very much for replying.

What kind of scan tool are you using?

I'm not for sure, I just used one that AutoZone let me go check with, I’m not totally sure, with that code and definition, what does that actually mean.I’m not real good with electrical so any details will help. just trying to save money before taking to shop if need be.

You will need a real scan tool that can read live data. The ones from the parts stores are glorified code readers.

The tool need to be able to access all the modules for codes.

They are code readers for codes and readiness monitors.

A real scan tool will run you around $1,200.00 to $1,500.00.

It would be cheaper for you to have a shop scan it for you and give you the codes.

Okay, so shops will be able to scan and actually find the exact code instead of the other code readers that couldn’t find anything? Lol

That is correct.

The cheap code readers are limited to what they can read. That is why they are so cheap.
